The Belt - Past and Future, Coronet Theatre
The Coronet Theatre's first ever site specific event, The Belt -Past and Future is helmed by South Korea's energetic Ambiguous Dance Company
The Coronet Theatre is a small jewel of a venue right in the heart of Notting Hill, which boasts perhaps the cosiest and classiest bar in the business and an auditorium with perfect sight lines and thrilling proximity to the performers. What up to now the public hadn't had access to were the hidden backstage areas, cellars, attics and the inside of the building's eye-catching cupola.
Now we can see it all, thanks to the Coronet's first ever site specific event, which will be led by the dancers of South Korea's Ambiguous Dance Company on their return to what's surely their favourite London venue.
Entitled The Belt - Past and Future, the forthcoming event is in two parts, which can be experienced together or separately. Part One, Past, starting at 18:30, consists of a candle-lit walk through the Coronet's hidden hallways, an opportunity to explore the history of this landmark building, which dates from 1898.
Part Two, Future, starting at 19:30, is the world premiere of a characteristic high-octane performance by the eight dancers of Ambiguous Dance Company, which encapsulates director and choreographer Boram Kim's vision of the future, inspired by the trailblazing innovation at the time the theatre was built, but presented from the perspective of the vibrant contemporary South Korean culture.
Please Note: Past involves a significant amount of walking, as well stairs, and is not suitable for those requiring step-free access
