Rematch: Immersive Wimbledon Experience, Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre
Can’t wait for Wimbledon? Warm up for the world's oldest tennis tournament by reliving the Championships of 1980 in an immersive Wimbledon Experience
Did you miss out on one of the finest Grand Slam finals in history, Björn Borg vs John McEnroe? Or the moment when Evonne Goolagong became the first mother to win a Grand Slam singles title? Luckily, tennis fanatics and non-sport fans alike get the chance to relive the historic 1980 Wimbledon Championships at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre this summer.
Technology has come a long way since the VHS and jukebox of the 80s, and although actual time travelling is not quite possible yet, the Immersive Wimbledon Experience’s combination of film, theatre and sport thrusts you right back into the heart of the action. In a multi-sensory experience including broadcast footage, film, live actors and period props, you will be taken through the 1980 tennis tournament from start to finish – allowing for both the die-hard fans who were there at the time and the younger generation to relive the hyped-up championships.
Although tennis is the focus for the Immersive Wimbledon adventure, the experience doesn't only revolve around sports. In a recreation of the distinctive atmosphere of the 1980s, guests are invited to sip on piña coladas, nibble on retro street foods, dance to disco music and play Pac-Man on vintage video game machines. Eighties makeovers are part of the package and dressing for the occasion is very much encouraged.
Arranged over four consecutive days from 28 – 30 June, the Immersive Wimbledon Experience offers a nostalgic warm up for this year’s upcoming tennis tournaments.
