Vampire Weekend, Alexandra Palace
Following the release of their newest album Father of The Bride, Vampire Weekend are celebrating with two dates in London this November
When it comes to contemporary pop(ular) music, history seems to suggest that a crucial peak with a few number ones naturally makes room for a subsequent lull. Maybe a reunion later down the line, but nothing like the glory days.
Vampire Weekend seem different – going strong since 2006, the band released their fourth album, Father of the Bride, earlier this year, 11 years since their self-titled debut. And quality has never wavered – the cool, collected but always controlled indie-pop led by Ezra Koenig's unmistakable vocals has been releasing hit after hit after hit.
The days of 'A-Punk' made way for 'Diplomat's Son' in 2010, 'Hannah Hunt' in 2013 and now the likes of 'This Life' on the new record. Fans around the world have been flocking to Vampire Weekend gigs for years, and the pace is only increasing as the band gear up for an Autumn UK tour.
While most acts might struggle to fill the expanses of Alexandra Palace for one date, Vampire Weekend have needed to add a second one. For an album that raised the stakes, with 18 tracks including collaborations with Steve Lacy and HAIM, it makes sense – somehow they're still getting better.
For a familiar atmosphere of summer breeze and chic youth, brush up on your back catalogue and book in for one of the most anticipated gigs of the year. With four successful albums under their belt, there's plenty of room for a new live show to offer fans old and new many surprises to look forward to.
How much longer can Vampire Weekend ride this new wave? Are their greatest hits at their peak? There's only one wait to find out – the last few Ally Pally tickets are available now.
