Ivo Neame Quintet, Kings Place
The only London date in a long nationwide tour for one of the most talented and influential young British jazz ensembles.
Composer, pianist, saxophonist and accordionist, Ivo Neame is one of the most gifted and original young jazz musicians around. His three albums have been widely praised for their effervescent inventiveness, and he already has a string of awards to his name. While he can often be found performing with various members of London’s Loop Collective, this is the only appearance that his quartet will be making in London as part of its nationwide tour – so don’t miss out.
Neame’s compositions can be challenging, keeping both audiences and performers on their toes. The musical ideas come thick and fast, often taking sudden and unexpected turns, but there’s always an underlying playfulness, too. This stellar line-up – made up of long-time Loop collaborators, including the brilliant vibraphonist Jim Hart – will do doubt bring out the best in Neame’s writing. If you want a sense of just how vibrant the British jazz scene is at the moment, then this gig is a must.
