2013 has been a good year for hip hop. With era-changing innovation coming from such acts as Chance the Rapper, Tyler the Creator, Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar, many of the genre preconceptions are being blown away one by one.
J Cole has been firmly part of this transformation, a confident, dexterous lyricist who has avoided the tired tropes of violence, misogyny to release tracks which are at once intimate and catchy. After putting out just one mix-tape back in 2007, J.Cole received a phone-call from Jay Z and was immediately signed to his colossal label Roc Nation. It has inevitably been up hill from there, collaborating with the biggest stars in hip hop and releasing two albums which have both gone straight to number 1 in the US charts.
It is for this reason that he has been playing to crowds of thousands around the world, now finding himself performing for three dates at the grand and historic London Hammersmith Apollo. With a star of this prominence and a venue of this size, you can be sure to expect extraordinary visuals, sound and support acts. Fundamentally, it’s not every day you get to see a Grammy-nominated, platinum selling, Jay Z affiliate in London, so snap up that ticket rapidly before they undoubtedly sell out.
