Wolf Alice, Shepherd's Bush Empire
Wolf Alice best live music January 2014 sees Formed in 2010, this angsty North London foursome made it big by way of the blogosphere, and last year supported Tom Odell and The 1975 on their sold-out tour
The dreaminess in the voice of front-woman Ellie Rowsell (think PJ Harvey, or London Grammar) ensures that Wolf Alice aren’t just another Camden-based indie band. Vague vocals, carefree guitar, heavy percussion: nineties nostalgia abounds. Their debut EP Blush ranges from extreme rock tracks  to indie anthems while songs like 90 Mile Beach a more  sunnier sound. The second LP, Creature Songs. The album highlight is Moaning Lisa Smile, throbbing guitars give way to turbo riffs and a shouty chorus that Nirvana would have been proud. They can do quiet, too. Heavenly Creatures is a slip of a thing. Cleanly arranged. it is closer to pop-folk than grunge, with whispered vocals and pitter-pattered percussion.
