Steve Gadd Band, Ronnie Scott’s
Steve Gadd, jazz drummer extraordinaire, comes to Ronnie Scotts, November 2015
Steve Gadd might have turned 70 this year, but he’s still going strong. This November, the session drummer par excellence will play three early evening concerts at Soho jazz temple Ronnie Scott’s, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Joined by his long-standing band, he will play a mixture of solo and collaborative classics along with material from his valedictory new album 70 Strong.
Gadd began playing drums at the age of 7, when his army drummer inspired him to take lessons. His rise was swift and giddying; after a spell as a military percussionist himself, he moved to New York and became an in-demand studio musician. In jazz, he has worked with Chet Baker, Chick Corea and numerous others; outside the genre, his flexible playing has led to work with Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Steely Dan an Eric Clapton.
These live appearances should showcase the breadth of the astounding technique that has endeared him to so many others.
