Jazz At Lincoln Centre Orchestra, Barbican Centre
Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra Barbican residency back for another year.
Widely acclaimed as one of the best big bands in the world and led by legendary trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra get a huge reception whenever they come to London for their annual Barbican residency. 2016 marks their fourth international associate residency - and they never disappoint.
The orchestra’s 2014 appearance, an East meets West collaboration with Pakistan’s Sachal Jazz Ensemble, was one of our gigs of the year and in February 2016 the JLCO be giving two performances that look like future contenders.
Our Love is Here to Stay (20 Feb 2016), their latest project, is a celebration of the music of the great American songwriter George Gershwin, author of countless show tunes turned jazz classics, among them Summertime and I Got Rhythm.
Just as exciting is a special collaborative concert on 18 Feb 2016. Details are a closely guarded secret with tickets not yet on sale, but if it looks even half as promising as last year’s Sachal gig you’ll want to be first in line.
