"Hammond Eggs" feat. Randy Brecker & Bob Mintzer

Looking for off-kilter jazz in London this Spring? Organ trio Hammond Eggs' Ronnie Scotts debut is just the ticket.

Hammond Eggs Trio
Puntastic organ trio Hammond Eggs make their Ronnie Scott’s debut with special guests trumpeter Randy Brecker and Yellowjackets sax man Bob Mintzer.
The German trio – featuring guitarist Paulo Morello, drummer Christoph Huber and Jermaine Landsberger on Hammond B3 organ – arrived on the scene back in 2007 with the release of Bringin' Home the Bacon, following it up with Back In The Pan five years later.
Though they clearly have a penchant for tongue-in-cheek titles, they take their music seriously. Back In The Pan in particular is organ trio jazz for the modern age, a hard-swinging mashup of funk and contemporary rock, which lends Hammond Eggs an edgier vibe than many of their rivals.
Groove and grit are both in plentiful supply with Morello throwing dirty, overdriven guitar work into the mix, Landsberger supplying gruff, bass-heavy hammond lines and Huber responding with super-crisp fills and off-kilter beats.
Both Brecker (a fusion great who found fame with the Brecker Brothers, alongside his late brother Michael) and Mintzer (a Yellowjackets stalwart and former sideman to Art Blakey, Donald Fagen and Jaco Pastorius) featured on Back In The Pan, along with hungarian tenor star Tony Lakatos. The group toured extensively throughout 2014 so they should be on top form going into this Ronnie Scott’s appearance. Catch them while they’re at their funkiest.
