Don't miss adored synth-pop trio Chvrches' Brixton Academy concert, London 2014.
80’s revivalist synth-pop band Chvrches are extremely difficult to dislike.
The Scottish trio deal in addictive, wipe-clean pop music, immaculately produced and overlayed with kittenish vocals from Lauren Mayberry. Add just a drop of Caledonian melancholy, as well as Mayberry’s looks, which have critics (particularly older, male critics who might know better) reaching for words like elfin, and you have the secret to their success.
2013 was something of an annus mirabilis for Chvrches. The release of their dangerously catchy single 'The Mother We Share' launched the band into the limelight, winning them a spot on Jools Holland, Jimmy Fallon and a subsequent world tour. Their debut album The Bones of What You Believe was universally praised for its genre-bending, (electro meets pop meets indie) picking up an array of eclectic fans along the way. Their recent Somerset House concert was one of the first to sell out: the public can't get enough of Chvrches' super-stimulation.
Mayberry is backed up by two hugely talented producers-cum-synth players and their live shows are known to be incredibly tight, but lively affairs. Their appeal is undeniable: what they lack in ambiguity they make up for in precision.
