Exciting London gig from soul-drenched indie band Glass Animals. Oval Space at Bethnal Green hosts the psychedelic quartet this October
Sultry electro-indie quartet Glass Animals play the Oval Space in Bethnal Green this October.
The young Oxford band are fresh from their warmly received debut album, Zaba, released earlier this year.
Drawing on the sounds of indie contemporaries like alt-J and and Wild Beasts, the quartet take the increasingly popular art rock genre, and colour it with their own experimental tendencies. Zaba dives into a pool of R&B and trip hop, and emerges dripping with psychedelic soul.
Vocalist Dave Bayley’s androgynous vocals are vibrant and warm; limber and elastic beats bounce off fat bass lines, while organic synthesisers cut through the mix. The result is moody and intense; music that is fuzzy around the edges.
Album standout Gooey is perhaps the best exposition of their soulful, hallucinogenic jazz-imbued sound.
The small capacity of Bethnal Green’s Oval Space will provide the ideal intimacy for Glass Animals’ woozy, soporific beat-making.
