A unique experience: live music accompanies the film From Scotland With Love - performed by quintessentially Scottish singer-songwriter King Creosote. Barbican regulars will enjoy this musical socio-historical project

Tender Scottish indie-folk troubadour King Creosote performs his From Scotland With Love song cycle this September at the Barbican.

Accompanied by a backing band, Creosote’s songs will provide live musical accompaniment to the film From Scotland With Love - a Scottish heritage project collaboration with filmmaker Virginia Heath.

The Mercury-nominated, idiosyncratic artist (Fife-born Kenny Anderson) has long been making music inspired by his home country, spinning folk yarns around the oft-ignored beauty lurking within the quotidian - the From Scotland From Love project seems to be perfectly suited for him.

Funded by the BBC and the arts initiative Creative Scotland, the film is a documentary about ordinary life in Scotland during the past century, consisting only of archive footage of everyday Scots living and working day-to-day.

Featuring no commentary or interviews, Creosote’s quaint vignettes of daily life in times gone by - which includes Cargill , a song about fishwives and fisherman in a tiny fishing village - form the only narrative thread linking the silent images together.

Released to coincide with the Commonwealth Games, and also making a timely appearance as the Scottish Independence vote draws nearer, From Scotland With Love is not just a folksy curio; Creosote and Heath’s project paints a touching portrait of Scottish social history, brought to life with contemporary songs.
