Blow your mind with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic for a gig that is bound to be out of this world

A cornerstone of funk and soul scene, George Clinton and the rotating cast of Parliament-Funkadelic, his funk-soul-rock collective, come to the Kentish Town Forum for a 3-hour set this July.

In 1970, Clinton invented ‘P-Funk’, ingredients: funk, doo-wop, space-travel and rock with a wobbly LSD surrealism. Like Sun Ra, ‘Intergalactic exploration’ was the goal and incredible grooves were the result. George Clinton gave the worlds hits such as, ‘P Funk wants to get Funked Up’, 'One Nation Under a Groove,’, influencing Prince, Bowie, and becoming the most sampled artist of all time.

The grooves age well – P-Funk is as immortal as the decree that accompanied debut album Mothership Connection: 'Free your mind and your ass will follow'. Clinton unsurprisingly takes centre stage, the man has lost none of his funk - nor his voice lost its range, power, and throaty growl.

The Parliament Funkadelic themselves perform a bewildering range of music from the squealing guitars of classic rock'n'roll and blues to jazz-infused funk.

Live shows likewise are a constant medley of styles and performers encompassing doo-wop singers, backing singers, saxophones, trumpets, keyboards, guitars, and thumping drums shepherded by Clinton into an intoxicating evening interspersed with the frontman rousing the audience to a throaty sing-along: "Sh*t/g*ddamn/get off your ass and jam."

This is a rare chance chance to see a full-blooded, swinging, rocking funk-force-of-nature that started at a barbershop in New Jersey in the 50s and will stop for nothing.
