Warpaint, Hammersmith Apollo
The wait is over! Warpaint London gig rearranged for March.
Having cancelled their UK tour due to 'important family matters', all-girl, LA rock-band Warpaint finally pay a visit to London on March 26.
Members Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg (and Stella Mozgawa, first grabbed the attention of critics with their sepulchral 2008 EP Exquisite Corpse; the precursor for Warpaint’s debut album The Fool (2010). The record garnered much critical acclaim for its languid sensuousness and compellingly veiled adagio: standout track Undertow a perfect example.
Their latest release Warpaint has been nearly three years in the making, with the band citing their desire to take time out to experiment together, become more cohesive and compose new material. The sound is diffuse, the instrumentation vague, though the album audibly relies more on keyboards than their debut and these new arrangements fit the twilit songs to a T. Even when the guitars do creep into the album, they’re treated with so much reverb that they just as soon melt back into the band’s dreamlike soundscape.
These girls are a thrill in the flesh; one of the best live acts around, so grab the chance to see them before they head back stateside.
