The Tramshed Project, Shoreditch

The Library at The Tramshed Project
Following on swiftly from the closure of his popular street-food market Dinerama, Street Feast founder Dominic Cools-Lartigue has launched a new venture just around the corner: The Tramshed Project. Taking over the Grade II-listed warehouse space of Mark Hix’s now-closed Tramshed restaurant (itself a casualty of the pandemic), the multi-purpose venue is a cultural hub, workspace and restaurant – all under one roof. The membership-free destination hopes to offer a safe, socially distanced space for coworking, eating and coming together as a community during these times of uncertainty.

Here’s a look at what’s inside…

The kitchen

Perhaps the most exciting thing about The Tramshed Project is its eclectic mix of chefs busying away behind the stoves. James Cochran of Islington hotspot 12:51 is serving up his signature selection of fried, jerk-infused delights. Those keen to explore exotic flavours from west Africa can look to a new menu from chef and TV personality Zoe Adjonyoh of Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen. Also on board are renowned chefs Andrew Clarke (Brunswick House) and Daniel Watkins (The Frog), who between them will be serving up coal fire-smoked meats and plant-based dishes.

All of the above can be enjoyed in the main hall, which can accommodate up to 120 socially distanced diners.

The Gallery

In the basement of The Tramshed Project is a 2,000-sq-ft gallery, hosting all sorts of cultural events, residencies, talks, and workshops as well as exhibitions. Art spills over into the main hall, too, where works by the Zabludowicz Collection are hung.

The Library

Upstairs, things take a more pared-back and elegant turn in the Library. Here, it’s all about fine dining. The Library offers space for up to 40 guests to take a seat around a kitchen counter, and the promise of special events, collaborative dinners and chef takeovers to keep them entertained.

Co-working spaces

In a year that’s seen many of us reluctantly leave behind the buzz of the office to work instead from the more isolating confines of our homes, the prospect of co-working spaces have serious appeal now we’re allowed to be a little more mobile again. At the Tramshed Project, you can pitch up in your own personal booth, take a seat at a laptop bar or book a larger space for the entire team. The space is kitted out with screens, business support services and offers optional catering (remember those starry chefs we mentioned?), and there are workshops and mentoring programmes to make the most of, too.

So: a co-working space where you can also browse contemporary art, sit in on talks and eat the latest dishes of some of London's top chefs? The Tramshed Project sounds like a pretty appealing prospect.
