The Betterment restaurant at the Biltmore, Mayfair
The Betterment, Jason Atherton’s new restaurant, opens on Grosvenor Square – a stone’s throw from the site of his old boss Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant Lucky Cat
With four Michelin-starred establishments under his belt, it was only a matter of time before Jason Atherton set his sights on new gastronomic heights. That moment has arrived and Atherton – the chef behind Pollen Street Social and Berners Tavern among other acclaimed eateries – has opened The Betterment restaurant at The Biltmore hotel in Mayfair.

The Betterment marks Atherton’s return to Grosvenor Square after 10 years away from the site – and his former boss and mentor Gordon Ramsay, whom he worked under at Ramsay’s now-closed restaurant Maze. What’s more, what London foodies won’t fail to notice is that Atherton’s new restaurant is a stone’s throw from Ramsay’s new venture Lucky Cat, which opened on the site of Maze back in June. Allegedly, the pair haven’t spoken in the 10 years since they parted ways professionally.
Atherton announced his plans to open his new £5 million restaurant days after confirming he was closing his Social Wine and Tapas restaurant, also in Mayfair. On the name of his new eatery, Atherton said he and his wife Irha, with whom he founded the Social Eating Company in 2011, chose to call it The Betterment ‘to encapsulate [their] journey from opening Pollen Street Social in 2011 to today, highlighting the progression of [their] food, ethos and way of thinking.’
Inside The Betterment
Chef Paul Walsh, who launched City Social for Atherton and won it a Michelin star, is heading the kitchen at The Betterment. Expect an à la carte menu driven by seasonality, centring around meats and seafood cooked over embers, plant-based plates, and signature salads. Those who pop in for breakfast, meanwhile, will find a menu split into buffet, savoury and wellness, and there’s also an afternoon tea menu for those who fancy a spot of light indulgence during the day.
Here's to even better things from star-studded chef Jason Atherton.
