Pophams bakery, Islington
Inventive pastries and handmade sourdough in a photogenic setting
This pretty, minimalist space opened just off Upper Street in October 2017. In an area somewhat dominated by gluten-free goods, Pophams has already made a splash. It hit the news with its inventive maple and bacon croissants and food critic Fay Maschler was won over by its mince pies with a twist, but the bread is also more than worth the trip to North London – the handmade sourdough is baked freshly on the premises every morning.
Pophams takes as much pride in its interior design as it does in the quality of its baking. The backdrop is charming and the pottery is unique and rustic: the perfect ingredients for a trendy Instagram snap. Coffee is taken incredibly seriously too, with Ozone beans expertly prepared by its head barista. It’s a great place to sit down and enjoy your bread on site.
