Brick House bakery and café

South east London coffee shop and bakery that sells award-winning sourdough

Brick House Bakery, Dulwich
Brick House is a bakery and café with outposts in East Dulwich and Peckham Rye. Run by Fergus and Sharmin Jackson, it uses simple, natural ingredients and traditional baking methods to make slow-fermented, San Francisco-style sourdough.

Its award-winning Peckham Rye sourdough is often lauded as the best in London and the more complex loaves incorporating seeds, nuts and fruits are fantastic, too. Each of their sourdough loaves takes two days to make and is stone-baked using organic flour. The emphasis on wholesome natural food extends to the café menu, which features Neal’s Yard Dairy cheeses plus fruit and vegetables from Natoora.

Brick House supplies some of London’s best restaurants and cafés, including Duck Soup, Brunswick House and 26 Grains. On Mondays, when the original Dulwich branch is closed, you can dash to their little sister branch in Peckham, which is open seven days a week.

While it’s less talked about, the coffee at Brick House also happens to be some of the best you’ll sip south of the river. Keep it a secret, mind we don’t want the beans running out as quickly as the bread.
