Absinthe Experience at Croque Monsieur
A new absinthe bar, Croque Monsieur, opens in Camden allowing visitors to explore beyond the spirit's dark reputation
Normally, we avoid using words like ‘unique’ and ‘one-of-a-kind’
here at Culture Whisper because, when being honest, very few things are.
However, for Lost Boy’s Pizza we are willing to make an exception. The world’s
only vampire-themed pizzeria, located on Junction Road, is certainly niche with
its offerings of ‘The Coffin Dodger’ and ‘Kale all Vampires’ pizzas served on black charcoal-based dough. Not only that, but it is successful – enough so that it is opening a new
branch in Camden. And they won’t only be serving pizzas. The basement of the
venue is becoming a new bar specialising in absinthe, the
drink made infamous by its extremely high alcohol percentage. The bar, deceptively named Croque Monsieur, aims to 'catapult absinthe from its dark history into London’s present opening
up the world of this mysterious and potent green liquid'. The bar will serve an
impressive range of brands, catering to guests who want a gentle introduction
to the spirit in cocktail form as well as the daredevils wanting to try the
pure stuff.
Croque Monsieur will lose none of Lost Boy’s unusual style. Guests will be seated on church pews, with an absinthe fountain on each table and Art Deco prints covering the walls. The cocktail menu will include delights such as Death in the Afternoon, a decadent combination of absinthe and Champagne invented by Ernest Hemingway. When you add the fact that all visitors are obliged to wear an ‘Inhibition Hat’ (aiming to get guests to lose theirs), it shapes up to be a very interesting night indeed.
For their soft launch this December, Croque Monsieur is offering tickets to a two-hour absinthe experience, which allows guests to sample any three drinks and a range of snacks (which may or may not feature actual croque monsieurs) ahead of the bar's official opening. So join the Green Fairy and party the night away – just remember to be home before sunrise.
