Superstar chef Jason Atherton, Michelin starred for his work at Pollen Street Social, returns with a whole new restaurant concept

Temple & Sons, City
He gained a Michelin star within six months of opening Pollen Street Social in 2011 - and six successful restaurants later, Jason Atherton hopes to repeat the formula with new restaurant Temple & Sons. Atherton will pay homage to the great British pantry at this novel new restaurant that's dressed like a Victorian grocery - where groceries are available to take home.

British superstar chef Jason Atherton has been the cheffing name on everybody's lips since 2011 when he opened Pollen Street Social. Since then, he has turned heads for his contemporary cooking with international influences. His latest restaurant, now open, is designed to emulate a Victorian grocery and in true Atherton style, shows no regard for the rulebook.

Atherton heralds relaxed dining at Temple & Sons. Adding texture to the otherwise staid restaurant scene in the City, Temple & Sons will serve tables from a delicatessen-style ground floor space, or from a more traditional upstairs grill - but upturning the formality associated with the area, the restaurant has splendidly recreated the look of a Victorian grocery.

The new Jason Atherton restaurant will be the chef's eighth in London, following other acclaimed openings like Sosharu, a contemporary Japanese eatery in ode to night-time Tokyo, and the sky-scraping City Social, with a glamourous Art Deco feel, opposite Temple & Sons.

Atherton is further exploring what he's done at Asian restaurant Kisetsu, by having two approaches to dining under one roof. There's the pantry on the ground floor, where British produce is sold to be taken away, and seating for forty diners immersed within the produce.

Upstairs, a more traditional 80 cover restaurant will suit family-style dining, where the kitchen's focus is on serving whole or large cuts of meat with shareable supporting sides. All the meat will be cooked over custom-built grills, cooked over coal and (rather trendily), hay. Typically for Atherton, the food will replicate British classics (like vanillia rice pudding with homemade jam) but they'll be playfully different too (and more lavishly done).

Russell Sage Studios are behind the look, which will be a simple deli downstairs and recreate a Victorian grocery on the first floor. Think gorgeous brass detailing and fine wooden handiwork, and other typical Victorian adornments.
