Thai New Year Pop-up Event, Carousel Marylebone
Singha beer brings us two immersive evenings of thai food – London gets a taste of Songkran 2016
Fans of East Asian cuisine probably know all the West End Thai
restaurants like the back of their hands, but they’ve yet to witness Thailand transported to western Central London quite like this.
Next week, the streets of Thai city Chiang Mai arrive in Marylebone as part of the capital’s newest, foodie pop-up and cultural experience.
This is the result of a collaboration between Singha Beer and Shuttlecock Inc., and has been planned to coincide with Thailand’s new year celebrations. The Thai new year ‘Songkran’ festivities are the biggest in the country, and mark the end of the dry season.
Guests can toast the end of the dry season with a cold beer while they enjoy the accompanying traditional Thai street food. The air will be thick with spices and abuzz music and festivities that make for a truly immersive dining experience that'll instantly transport you 11,000 km away.
Songkran is a water festival, and guests should look out for the mysterious ‘surprise installation', inspired by the traditional sprinkling of water. We’ve been told that there’s no need to bring a swimsuit, but don’t forget your dancing shoes for the traditional Thai music will provide the soundtrack to your evening.
‘Travellers’ will also be able to see a floating market and make their own traditional Thai wish lantern along a recreation of the Ping River.
The £35 tickets (available here) entitles the buyer to three complimentary dishes and two Singha Beers, but there’ll be plenty more to buy within the bustling streets, and if beer isn't your drink of choice, the cocktails won't disappoint… Take a well deserved early holiday and spend the end of next week in Northern Thailand, without ever having to set foot on a plane.
