The Bar With No Name, Islington ★★★★★

69 Colebrooke Row, Islington is a veritable treat for cocktail connoisseurs. Everything about it feels slightly secretive: its elusive name, its off-main-street location, its low lighting. Even the acoustics are perfectly tuned to make sure that you lean across and speak in whispers to whoever you might be there with.
Aside from being the ideal scene for a cosy evening, the cocktails are second to none. The staff are experts and aptly placed to advise you about the intricacies of each of their concoctions. We suggest getting a seat at the bar, for these mixologists are a joy to watch: each cocktail is created with as much care and attention as its taste suggests.
For bold and interesting, we recommend the “Initials”, infused with birch, deliciously warming and imaginative: you’ll be transported to silvery forests. If you’re after something sweeter and more light hearted the "Ruby Bellini" is thick, purpled, sparkling and vibrant. The Manhattan Steel Corp was our favourite with almondy maraschino liqueur, dry essence (for the perfect mouthfeel) and a delightfully fuchsia cherry.
Oh yes, and then there’s their signature take on a Prairie Oyster. Ask one of the mixologists to explain their innovation here: tomato, yolk, horseradish, vodka… you’ll be greeted with a pop! It might sound slightly unappetising, but it’s the superlative of its kind.
There is something quite magical about this place. The perfect pre or post dinner stop off, it’s bound to turn you out onto the street feeling like you’ve discovered one of London’s hidden treasures.
Book before you go as the bar fills fast at peak times and waiting on the stairs can be slightly cramped…
