The Good Egg, Stoke Newington
We're so excited about this new Stoke Newington restaurant, The Good Egg
There are some 2015 modern trends - molecular gastronomy, raw food, cereal cafés - that leave us cold. But every once in a while, there comes along an opening that with a lot of heart, and a touch of nostalgia. Stoke Newington's The Good Egg is one of these.
Three chefs, including an ex-Ottolenghi baker, have devised a menu inspired by their memories of their childhoods and travels. The all-day neighbourhood café will serve up things like stuffed pittas from Tel Aviv, Californian crispy chicken, baked eggs from hand-rolled bagels, home-smoked fish: real, Jewish comfort food.
But the pinnacle of the Good Egg Menu is perhaps their burger: an aged beef and marrow, topped with home pickled onion and a runny egg in a sweet home-backed challah roll.
For drinks, you can choose between cocktails, local wine or craft beer. We can't wait.
