On the Bab

Korean streetfood restaurant gets a West London offshoot: think spicy dumplings, 'anju', and sweet and savoury buns.

On the bab, Covent Garden
Old Street's popular Korean streetfood restaurant gets a West London overhaul with a new venue in Covent Garden.
The restaurant, like the Shoreditch original, focuses on Korean 'anju' dishes, food specifically designed to accompany alcohol. Some of their favourite dishes will be following them to Covent Garden, such as their steamed buns filled with the likes of bulgogi beef, spicy Korean chicken, spicy pork, or fried chicken, and the signature kimchi bokeum bab (Korean style kimchi bacon paella with a fried egg on top).
They'll also have some new dishes on offer including yangyum chicken, topped with 'Padak' sweet & sour spring onion, and 'Manuldak' Korean garlic garnish)
Plus it's all designed to be eaten with drink, and there's plenty on offer. Diners are invited to try the “chimek” (chicken and beer) experience, or on the bab's new additions to the current soju cocktail menu. They've also imported a range of spirits to pair with the food.
Great for groups heading to and from shows, this unpretentious and delicious menu of fiery hot food, seaweed pancakes, dumplings and fresh raw ginger and honey drinks will delight the tastebuds. Make sure to try out the sweet buns which are definitely On the Bab's pièce de resistance. There are still a few kinks to iron out at this new Korean hang-out, but the cosy, industrial decor and food with a fiery punch makes it high on our list in the West End.
