Vinoteca, King's Cross

Vinoteca, one of London's more interesting wineries, is amongst the recent crop of fashionable additions to King’s Cross' once non-existent culinary scene. Vinoteca occupies a vast space, whilst still enjoying the relaxed, intimate feeling of a European tapas bar: when it comes to wine, though, there's nothing casual about King's Cross' latest retreat. 
This, the fifth and biggest member of the Vinoteca group, will be the first to feature a dedicated wine shop, where guests can buy the wines they've just enjoyed sampling whilst perched around the (very Spanish) giant zinc bar, the restaurant's centrepiece. As with their other branches, Vinoteca's King's Cross offshoot has a rustic Spanish atmosphere combined with fresh, urban decor. Its primary focus is, as ever, upon the 250 wines the restaurant boasts from all around the world, of which their astonishingly long wine-list is proof.
Chef Kieren Steinborn, who's worked at the likes of Swan at the Globe, among other successful ventures, has devised a varied menu that combines Mediterranean flavours with home-grown, British ingredients. Dishes such as roast lemon Cotswold chicken with panzanella (a Tuscan salad of bread and tomatoes) or Cornish mackerel with pickled vegetables, capers and pine nuts (as well as weekend brunch) show there's plenty on offer for those after more than just wine.
This new Vinoteca makes a refreshing addition to the industrial, urban surrounds of King's Cross. A haven for serious wine connoisseurs, or anyone who simply fancies a drink and a nibble on the way home from work.
