Story Deli: the best pizza in the world?

Story Deli is too trendy for colour. Everything inside 123 Bethnal Green Road has been whitewashed: from the floor to the ceiling, the table legs and lampshades, and even the wooden crates-cum-chairs that customers sit on.
Only the table tops are granted a hue: a light, woody beige that has rubbed itself free from its coat of white paint. The space feels like a school art room before term starts, or a Tate modern exhibit about dreamscapes and ghosts.
But perhaps the reason Storydeli has such a minimalist interior is that the energy and colour that could have been splashed onto the walls has been instead pumped into the pizzas – little dough based riots of colour and flavour that have been heralded as the best pizza in the world by some, including winning first prize at the 2013 Chowzter Fast Feast awards.

The thin, crispy, Italian pizzas made with wafer-thin dough covered in fresh toppings will dazzle diners. Try their Fico pizza with goat’s cheese, figs, parma ham, red onion, capers and salad greens, or their delicious dora romero, topped with chorizo, smashed tomatoes, tomato passata and mascarpone.
Pizza is at the heart of this place, so for dessert you’ll have a choice of only three delicious conclusions to your meal: chocolate brownie, mixed berry cheesecake or ice cream. Or, of course, you could always opt for a second pizza instead, which you might just want to do.
