The Beefsteaks Residency at The Duke's Head, Highgate

Every month this year, the Duke's Head on Highgate Street will be hosting residencies by some of London's premier pop-up kitchens, and in January its the turn of the wildly popular Beefsteaks, purveyors of the finest in steak and chips, not to mention some enticing extras.
You might have spotted The Beefsteaks around town – they've popped up at the Camden Brewery, the KERB pop-up market in Spitalfields and Kings Cross, and at the weekend market on Maltby Street. They're fast gaining a reputation for intimidatingly good, sustainably sourced beef steak (order it with pickled walnuts as a bar snack, with onion marmalade in a sandwich, or grilled and plated with horseradish), but at the Duke's Head they're serving up everything from lemon sole goujons and smoked salmon to a winter vegetable casserole, and even an ale-roasted half-chicken.
The Duke's Head, meanwhile, is scoring some accolades of its own. CAMRA just gave their stamp of approval, awarding the Duke the title of North London's Pub of the Season for Autumn 2014, while Timeout just labelled them Highgate's Best Pub for 2014. With support like that, you can be sure their selection of draught ales will be top-drawer (they've 10 casks on at any one time), but for those who prefer something that isn't served in a pint glass, their Sacred Gin Bar should keep you busy, serving up a classic selection of cocktails for a reasonable £7.
On opening night The Beefsteaks had to close early, having already sold out, so you can be sure that those in the know will be telling their friends. We doubt North Londoners will find a better spot to while away the evenings this January.
