Scandinavian Design Supper Club, Heal’s
In one of the best supperclubs London has to over, Heal's are celebrating all things Scandinavian. Come and soak up some Nordic cool this November.
Combing a love of fine food with timeless design, the Heal’s Supperclub on November 12 will celebrate all things Scandinavian. The supper, which is held jointly with Finnish design brand Iittala, will be prepared by the acclaimed Cambridge Cookery School. Guests can look forward to five different Nordic-inspired courses, as well as fine wines and fairtrade teas.
Iittala began life in 1881 as a glass factory in the town in Finland after which it is named. It was during the 1930’s and ‘40s, with the birth of functionalism, that the firm came into its own, with design pioneers Alvar and Aino Aalto bringing the brand to international attention.
The brand’s careful eye for detail and process is matched by the Cambridge Cookery School team, who have been supported by Iittala since they began. Founded by Scandinavian-born Tine Roche, the school opened five years ago, and has since won prestigious awards, even being named the country’s best cookery school in 2013.
We are excited to try Roche’s Scandi-style cooking, which is certain to prove just how much more there is to northern cuisine than herrings and IKEA meatballs. In her recipes, Roche places a subtle emphasis on distinctive ingredients favoured in the region like dill, cardamom, caraway and fennel seeds. Wild game, cured fish and sweet and sour berries are also staples.
After a night celebrating the region’s creative cooking and design, you will also go home with a striking souvenir - a pair of red wine glasses designed by Alfredo Haberli for Iittala in 2001
