Secret Larder

Food writer James Ramsden turns his expertise to an exciting pop-up supper club, with a menu that changes weekly to showcase the freshest flavours.

Secret Larder

Food journalist and blogger James Ramsden has done what many a critic wouldn’t dare: abandoned the acerbic pen to prove his salt in the kitchen. So, The Secret Larder supper club was born. The pop-up dinners include four delicious courses, a welcome drink and the promise of an unusual culinary experience in the intimate setting of Vagabound coffee shop on Holloway Road. The menu's different each time, changing to suit the seasons and showcase the freshest produce - bring an open mind and a big appetite.

When Culture Whisper checked it out the evening was themed around French bistro classics, with the delightful addition of freshly foraged wild garlic, flowers and herbs enhancing the flavour and aesthetics of the dishes. We were warmly greeted with an artisan cocktail mixed from bitter lemon and a locally produced aperitif, called Kamm & Sons (the ingredients of which include manuka honey, hibiscus flowers and juniper berries).  The style of dining was quintessentially supper club-esque; long tables with benches, so everyone was cosy enough to make firm friends for the evening.  However, it became clear from the stripped-back décor that there were to be no gimmicks competing with the cuisine.

With just 30 seats at each supper this is an intimate and exclusive affair, so book quickly before it fills up.
