Ferdi, Shepherd Market, Mayfair
A Parisian Brasserie with celebrity status, Ferdi London has opened in Mayfair, with a playful interior and a 'craving menu' of French comfort food
Ferdi only accept reservations by text message: 073 7553 8309
Until now, Parisian Brasserie Ferdi's biggest claim to fame has been that it was once name-checked in Keeping Up With The Kardashians as Kim's favourite restaurant in Paris. But now that Ferdi has opened a London branch, it's a hot bet if you want to spot an ever bigger celebrity.
Gigi Hadid having girolles or Penélope Cruz crunching crudites- they've all been snapped at the Paris venue, near prestigious Place Vendôme. Here's hoping Ferdi London will have them staying this side of the channel for a French fix.
But Ferdi has family, not fame at its heart. Founded in 2004, owners Alicia and Jacques Fontanier named the restaurant after their son, Ferdinand. The new Mayfair venue will be co-managed by their niece, 24-year-old Olympia Irving.
With their 'Cartes d'Envies' or 'Craving Menu', the Parisian brasserie (pictured) is already famous for serving burgers, snacks and risottos, as well as celebrated cocktails. A stiff and traditional white table cloth and soup-du-jour affair this is not. Many hope that the Mac Ferdi's cheeseburger makes the transition across the channel.
The prices for a green salad or a chicken curry in the Paris branch are steep for what is simple comfort food. But you're paying for a slice of the scene, too. Much like the Paris venue, toys feature heavily as decor in the London branch, making for a whimsical feel. In actual fact, it was a massive undertaking to buy 600 Playmobil figurines during the Christmas crush around Hamleys.
Tucked away in the charming piazza of Shepherd Market, just behind Curzon Mayfair, you'll easily find yourself strolling past after a quick cinema trip. Sadly, Ferdi doesn't cater to drop-ins.
There will be just 30 covers on site and booking will only be available via SMS. We wonder just who will be texting for reservations on opening night.
