Palatino restaurant, Clerkenwell

Stevie Parle is making his mark on Clerkenwell with Palatino, his Rome-influenced restaurant

Palatino restaurant, Clerkenwell
Minutes from Luca, which serves British produce "through an Italian lens", Palatino is the next restaurant by Ruth Rodgers protégé Stevie Parle.

Since his River Cafe days Parle has become a London household name for his four London restaurants, Dock Kitchen, Sardine, Craft and Rotorino.

Palatino will focus on Italian food that's inspired by Rome. Other than what's on the plate, Parle got famous for being concerned with the full dining experience. The styles of his restaurants, and uses of space, often pay heed to Parle's style of cooking. For instance at Greenwich's Craft you'll find most of what's on the plate is made in-house, from the veg on the rooftop garden to the honey harvested from the beehives and the coffee from the ground floor roasters.

Palatino is named after one of the seven ancient hills of Rome, and will serve food inspired by the Italian capital, as well as taking influence from regions to the north and south. Middle Eastern influences are also expected on the menu, which ambitiously tackles Italian family favourites rarely seen on UK menus.

On the menu will be fried sage with apple and honey, and chicken and pistachio meatballs with polenta and squash. Stay safe with stone-baked pizzas and traditional Italian antipasti, primi, secondi and pasta to be served alone, with a glass of wine from a generous list where everything is by-the-glass.
