Autumn/Winter Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley, London
Feel like this season's hottest collections are impossible to get your hands on? Make way for the The AW 17/18 'cakewalk' Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley
We may not be able to afford every designer's new collection in it's entirety, but we can always find an excuse to make some discerning purchases when it comes to cake.
Gucci, Burberry, Anya Hindmarch, Bottega Veneta, Dolce Gabbana and a platter of the world's greatest designers are now right at your fingertips at The Berkeley's new AW 17/18 Collection of Prêt-à-Portea. Each season, the luxury hotel's head pastry chef Mourad Khiat celebrates the latest fashion trends in an afternoon tea of exquisitely crafted couture cakes and biscuits.
The focus this year is on vibrant colours, graphic lines and delicate detail.
First up on the cakewalk is Bottega Veneta’s mustard yellow suit biscuit; then Miu Miu’s much loved faux fur mint coat of pistachio cremeux; and embracing the ever playful style of Anya Hindmarch, the designer’s foxy new handbag clutch becomes a delicious dulce and ginger cake sandwiched with orange chocolate and beady eye detailing to complete the look.
Christopher Kane’s taffeta floral embellishments are recreated with elegant sugar flowers and Burberry’s popular white feather cape becomes a tonka bean cheese cake with cinnamon crumble base, finished with a white chocolate feather.
Gucci brings back the ultimate accessory with the addition of a stylish chocolate parasol set upon a pomegranate and grenadine bavarois dress.
Further delectable details include: Balenciaga’s show stopping black and white dress with a cheeky kick of luminous orange tuile; Dolce & Gabbana’s ever popular rainbow dress; and completing this wintery chic collection, Gianvito Rossi’ rich red biscuit booties take to the stand.
PRICE: Prêt-à-Portea is served at The Berkeley from 1pm-5.30pm every day priced at £52 per person or £62 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne, or £70 per person including a glass of couture champagne.
