La Fromagerie Bloomsbury
Cheese aficionados rejoice: La Fromagerie are opening their third site in Bloomsbury combining walk-in cheese-room and cafe showcasing cheese-centric dishes.
La Fromagerie, a London institution 26 years strong, worshipped for its dedicated cheese rooms at their Marylebone and Highbury sites, are opening their third location in Bloomsbury, combining shop and twenty-six seat dining room.
They already supply cheese to many of London’s top restaurants including The Ledbury and The River café which speaks volumes and now they’re opening their own proper restaurant along with their third deli.
La Fromagerie Bloomsbury looks set to deliver aesthetically too. It’s within a beautifully renovated Georgian building and filled with deep green velvet banquettes and marble topped bars.
The aromas that assault on entering the walk-in cheese room promise to be delectably pungent and full-bodied and every cheese is perfectly affined. They take cheese very seriously here and make their own divine truffle brie as well as stocking cheeses from the best artisan producers worldwide. To go with cheese there will be artisan bread, seasonal fruit and veg, charcuterie, house-made chutneys. A new addition will be antique glass, linen and tableware for sale sourced from markets throughout Europe. Owner Patricia Michelson has impeccable taste.
La Fromagerie has an endearing backstory. Patricia Michelson began the venture after purchasing a wheel of Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage cheese in a farmers’ market in Meribel while on a skiing trip in 1991.
After selling the cheese from her garden shed back in London, she graduated to a stall in Camden Market, before opening her first site in Highbury.
The Bloomsbury restaurant will serve breakfast and weekend brunch (until 3pm) plus daily changing platters of charcuterie and cheese to showcase their astonishing choice plus their signature fondue Savoyarde. It will be open for dinner Thursday-Saturday with small seasonal plates, the smoked salmon and oyster bar and a hefty wine list. We greedily anticipate its opening.
Opens: 2 October
Booking: no bookings taken, except for Tasting Room for private events https://www.lafromagerie.co.uk/bloomsbury/
Price: Moderate: £60 for two for a modest cheese/charcuterie platter, dessert and glass of good wine at lunchtime
