Kudu, Peckham, London
Heir to restaurant royalty comes to South London's buzzy foodie hotspot Peckham. Amy Corbin is opening South African inspired Kudu
Peckham is fast becoming one of London's most buzzy foodie scenes, and the arrival of new neighbourhood spot Kudu is definitely one to watch. Not only does the South African inspired locavore menu read incredibly well, but one half of the team has serious restaurant heritage in her blood.
Amy Corbin is the daughter of Chris Corbin who, in turn, is one half of Corbin & King - the duo behind many of London's top restaurants including the Wolseley, Colony Bar and Grill and the Delaunay.
Amy is making her first foray into the restaurant world with her partner Patrick Williams. Williams was previous sous chef at Paradise Garage and will be head chef here. He hails from South Africa and these roots will inspire the food. As they explain:
"whether that's slow cooking in a potjie pot over hot coals, or baking our delicious Kudu bread. We source as much as possible from local suppliers and celebrate hunters & foragers and gather what we can from our own herb garden and vegetable plot."
The menu sounds heartily winter-warming and daring. The kudu bread comes either with melted lardon butter and parsley or with melted seafood butter and baby prawns. Main dishes include: pigs head tortellini, hay bone broth, crispy onion; mussel potpie pot with seaweed gnocchi, braai lamb rump, smoked yoghurt, lettuce, brussel top and pumpkin tart, salted caramel, charcoal & almond ice cream.
Weekend brunch promises to be a huge hit with the dishes fairly squared at hangover recovery. Boerewors sausage, romesco, white beans, onion soubise and French toast chocolate babka, orange cream and miso caramel, with added bacon or candy kumquat option sound.
Not only is Peckham the neighbourhood hot on our radar. We're wondering will Corbin & Williams be the next generation restaurant influencers?
