Immersive 1960s Pop-Up Dinner, Carousel Restaurant Marylebone
Shuttlecock and Carousel host an immersive 1960s wedding celebration – prepare for a night of drinking and dancing
Immersive 1960s Pop Up Dinner Party REVIEW: Culture Whisper says: ★★★★★
Who doesn't love a bit of 60s nostalgia? Mini skirts, big hair... the Cuban Missile Crisis. Well, take a step back in time with award-winning Shuttlecock Inc. and discover a renewed passion for the decade you live in.
Held in the basement of the sparse Carousel restaurant in Marylebone, the team of four cousins who together make Shuttlecock have staged a theatrical-come-dining experience in at an imaginary wedding reception in an East End boozer, The Cobbler's Awls.
At ‘Right Royal Knees-Up’, half of the wedding guests are paid actors, sloshing around as wide boys, gossiping bridesmaids and lecherous uncles. You'll meet a very beautiful and very pregnant bride, looking for her looser husband. You'll enjoy sausage rolls as canapés and hideously potent cocktails.
Unfortunately, as is the way at a 'rough round the edges' wedding, guests have to wait in long lines for a paper plate full of food. The pork belly, pea puree and smooth mash is delicious -- when you eventually get it -- but it's a very small plate of food with nothing for desert, which feels like quite an ask when tickets are £38.
If you like larger than life characters, a roll play, live music and -- aren't especially hungry -- then this is a great night on the town. Bring hair spray.
