The 13th Annual Chap Olympiad
Absurdist games and copious gin: don’t forget your cravat for the 13th Annual Chap Olympiad
Let’s get this straight: the Chap Olympiad is not a sporting event. Unless you consider jousting on Boris-bikes (‘velocipedes’ to the initiated), moustache snipping, or sock wars legitimate as outdoor pursuits, then this is a day devoted to silliness. With copious amounts of cream tea and, more importantly, gin on offer, the Chap Olympiad is about revelling in the indulgent side of Englishness.
Hosted by gentleman’s magazine The Chap, this is the Olympiad’s 13th year at Bedford Square. Each year has seen a new host of ludicrous lawn games, and the jewels in this year’s crown will include Riding Crop Rumpus, Tea Pursuit, and Carry the Cox. If those sound too tame, there’s always Pyong Yang Ping Pong: normal ping pong but with a man dressed as Kim Jong Un plonked on the table.
Those not athletically inclined are always encouraged to sit back and enjoy the entertainment. With a glass of Pimm's in hand and the nattiest outfits in London on parade, things aren't going to get boring. A plentiful day of people watching, anyone?
