Bababoom Brunch, Battersea Rise
Bababoom in Battersea is the latest restaurant to offer the discerning Londoner brunch
After setting up shop on Clapham’s
Battersea Rise in August last year, new kids of the block Bababoom are taking
the culinary offerings to the next level with a brand new brunch menu. They’re
in good company – across the road is breakfast superstar The Breakfast Club,
which still has queues snaking along the pavement, and round the corner from
champion of local produce Bill’s, Bababoom has some stiff competition when it
comes to the best meal of the week.
Luckily, what’s on offer at Bababoom is unlike any of the other menus in town. In keeping with their authentic middle-eastern flavours, brunch here steers clear of smashed avo and smoked salmon (although the green stuff has found it’s way into the Avacado Tahini) and looks elsewhere for inspiration.
Persian flatbreads, date glazed bacon and perfectly fluffy fried eggs make up the breakfast ‘kebab’, or you can go veggie with aubergine and grilled Mastello cheese instead. The Ultra Runner is the ‘light’ option – expect a plate bursting with fresh veggie produce and soft poached eggs, although to call it ‘light’ might be pushing it a bit. We ordered Dukkah fries on the side, which are available on the brunch menu and also from the main menu, which is available from midday on Saturday’s and Sunday’s (order Baba’s hummus for an Arabic-style dipping experience).
For those who like their brunches sweet, the eggy flatbread is inspired and a serious upgrade from your standard eggy loaf – served with a caramalised banana, honeycomb, clotted cream and Nutella, this is only for the diners with a serious sweet tooth (or the ones who can fit in brunch dessert).
Minimalistic interiors and an open grill make Bababoom a comfortable place to while away a Sunday morning. If you’re planning on staying for the long haul (brunch is served until 3pm) then invest in a Gigantic Mimosa – 500ml of Cremant de Loire and tongue-tingling fresh OJ – perfect for anyone fending off yesterday’s hangover.
