J&M Davidson boutique opening
Designer leather brand J&M Davidson opens its new boutique in well-healed Mayfair's glamorous Mount Street
Walking down Mount Street, past the Grade II terracotta buildings and the illustrious labels – Céline, Simone Rocha, Roksanda Ilincic and Delfina Delettrez – among them Londoners will now find J&M Davidson’s new boutique; their second in the UK and third worldwide.
Turning in, visitors are greeted with a muted colour palette: dusty greys, bruised pinks and soft gold of an interior designed by award-winning Universal Design Studios. And, standing before the cantilevered staircase and leather-wrapped banister rail, they'll find J&M Davidson’s latest collection.
Launched in 1984 by the French-Anglo lovers John and Monique Davidson, J&M Davidson initially focused on producing handcraft leather but has since extended its love-warn aesthetic to include leather accessories, clothes and knitwear, inspired by the couple's travels around the world.
This season, the collection is all about texture: creamy, soft leather, eye-catching fringing that begs fingers to run through it, and studded accents lend the much-loved Olivia Tote and Carnival bucket bags their signature J&M Davidson style. Elsewhere, the brand's cosy read-to-wear tweed, wool and silken shifts and smocks have acquired the brand a cult following, especially in Japan's Tokyo where it maintains its flagship in the Aoyama district.
‘We were keen that the space had a strong dialogue with its place whilst reflecting [J&M Davidson’s] commitment to craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail, expressed in the timeless and understated nature of the brand,’ Universal Design Studio co-director Jason Holley told wallpaper.com. With its clean lines, solid concrete counter-tops and warm lighting, we couldn’t agree more.
