YMC, Oliver Spencer and Folk sample sale

Urban chic is the watchword for any sample sale featuring Folk, Oliver Spencer and YMC. But this December, where collections from the designer's autumn/winter 2014 collections are likely to abound of up to 80% off, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for the reddish, navy and khaki colours of autumn better associated with the depths of the countryside.
Oliver Spencer, whose upbringing selling second-hand clothing in Portobello Market informed his unpretentious, rough-and-ready London aesthetic, produced a collection last year that was both earthy and sophisticated, and could happily be warn on long muddy walk that just so happens to ends outside Brixton's clubs at 2am.
We especially recommend getting your hands on the loose fitting, culotte inspired trousers which come short around the ankles and have proved a big hit in this year's mens and womenswear, as well as the grown-up brushed cotton jackets and waistcoats and chic woollen coats.
YMC's (You Must Create) autumn/winter collection 2014 also features the modest and inviting autumnal colours of muted orange, browns, greens and deep blues, but with high-necked winter jumpers which, thanks to the return of 70s styles over the summer, are the being warn everywhere, and pillow-y bomber jackets.
As with Oliver Spencer, YMC established its name as a menswear brand before expanding into womenswear. If you are lucky enough to find womens' outerwear, we recommend scooping up our favourite YMC Bonded Mac in deep navy blue - but all the coats are expertly made in wools and cashmere.
Last, but not least, a Folk sample sale is always worth a visit, as the expert tailoring and high-quality shirts, some Liberty like in their print-heavy motifs and some plain but beautiful, are wardrobe staples. Last year, the brand also went heavy on dark blue cashmere jumpers and multipurpose bomber jackets.
Understated and sophisticated: what might at first glance appear to be last year's styles are timeless classics that will be popular for many winters yet to come.
