Fashion and Feminism, London College of Fashion

Can fashion and feminism ever see eye to eye? Join the debate at the London College of Fashion, London 2015.

Talks at London College of Fashion, Feminism and Fashion
On Tuesday 30 September 2014, feminism conquered the catwalk. The creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, organised a fake feminist demonstration at Paris fashion week where Chanel models marched before all the world brandishing placards demanding women’s rights, lead by supermodels Gisele Bundchen and Cara Delving, who were shouting through megaphones.
Fashion bloggers and journalists the world over were divided in their opinions: was this a genuine feminist statement drawing attention to a much needed cause, or a cheap attempt to jump on the band wagon of women’s rights that trivialised, rather than elevated, important gender issues?
For those who are interested in debate between fashion and feminism, London College of Fashion is hosting a round table event to discuss how (and whether) feminism has affected fashion, and the impact of social media on the relationship between the two. Join academic Pamela Church Gibson from London College of Fashion, Georgia Murray, founder of feminist magazine GIRLS/CLUB zine, Ilya Parkins from the London School of Economics for a debate chaired by Djaurdja Bartlett from the London College of Fashion.
