Dress of the Year, Fashion and Textiles Museum

Join author Richard Lester, curator Rosemary Harden and editor Matthew Freedman to discuss the Dress of the Year 2015 at the Fashion and Textile museum

Dress of the Year award 1965: John Bates/Jean Varon
Each winter, the Dress of the Year is selected for its ability to encapsulate the most iconic and directional look of the past twelve months by a 'fashion expert'. The winning dress is showcased, forever, at the Fashion Museum in Bath alongside the other inspirational ensembles of design that stretch right back to 1963, when the first award was given to Mary Quant for her grey wool dress and cream chiffon blouse - showing us all just how much times have changed.
Last year, the Dress of the Year award 2014 was won by Gareth Pugh for his plastic coat and wrap ensemble, selected by fashion journalist and editor of style magazine LOVE, Katie Grand. The year before that, it went to designer Christopher Kane, for his pink dress with gaffer tape, chosen by style blogger Susanna Lau, author of stylebubble.com.
Those who are interested in what makes the most eye catching dress each year can join Richard Lester, author of Dress of the Year, Rosemary Harden, curator of the Fashion Museum in Bath and commissioning editor of Dress of the Year  Matthew Freedman, at the Fashion and Textile museum in London.
They will be discussing which ‘fashion expert’ is most likely to chose the award for Dress of the Year 2015, which ensembles from the international fashion collections are likely to win and the new specially-commissioned photography book by Richard Lester, on the dresses that have made history so far.
This will be followed by a book signing and the opportunity to talk to the Dress of the Year team in person. Not to be missed for anyone interested in the changing nature of fashion.
