Louis Vuitton launch "The Icon and The Iconoclasts" at Dover Street Market
Luxury designer store, Dover Street Market, unveils new project from Louis Vuitton in conjunction with Frieze London and DSM's ten year anniversary.
Dover Street Market is home to luxury designers and also a platform for the more quirky, edgy side of fashion. This week sees a week of events on occassion of Frieze London and as part of the ongoing celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the shop. These events include the unveiling of a new window display from Rei Kawakubo and a book signing with Oliver Zahm, author of
OIiver Zahm: a photographic diary of Art, Sex and Fashion. However for the aspirational shopper, the most exciting event this week is the launch of "The Icons and The Iconoclasts" from Louis Vuitton.
This project involved handing the reigns to six leading creatives, including Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Louboutin, and asking them to produce a new bag or piece of luggage. Remaining true to the elegance of the brand, these six new designs blast new life into the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram. The range caters for all tastes: Marc Newson contributes a chic backpack whereas Cindy Sherman produces a playful satchel. Christian Louboutin clearly designed with his shoes in mind. His piece is elegant and structured, the perfect compliment to his signature heel. For those looking for a stronger statement, Rei Kawakubo's shopper bag is for you. Far from practical, the designer takes a modern twist on the old classic through the addition of large, puddle like holes on the side of the bag. As ever, Karl Lagerfeld blends innovation and style. His piece plays with shape and uses a gold chain strap rendering it a must have piece.
