London designer fashion shops don't get much more individual than Dover Street Market, which makes big changes every season

January is a time of new beginnings for people, but also for some of London's best retailers, where the rails of sales stock swiftly make way for the new collections.
Taking the idea of a new start to the next level is Dover Street Market, the retail empire of Rei Kawakubo, the inscrutable founder of Comme des Garçons, and her husband Adrian Joffe, which through a process called 'tachiagari' brings about a new beginning for the start of each season.

As well as new collections and exclusive pieces from emerging and established brands, the new season brings a host of new names in-store. Zanini, the eponymous line of former Schiaparelli and Rochas creative director Marco Zanini, has a grace and looseness that will appeal to those still mourning Phoebe Philo-era Celine.

Footwear continues its romp through the trends of the late 90s and early noughties, as evidenced by two newly minted brands. For party shoes with attitude, choose from the chunky curved heels and glamorous finishes of Nodaleto, or the strappy sandals and pointed toes of Abra.

Much more than just a simple updating of stock, the the dawn of a new season at the famed London boutique is seen as a chance to redevelop spaces with new installations and shop-fits designed to draw shoppers in to the wonderfully creative worlds of the fashion brands with which they work.

The new Comme des Garçons collection is Act II of a triptych inspired by Virgina Woolf's Orlando which saw Kawakubo design costumes for a production at the Vienna State Opera in December 2019. A new installation includes beautiful images of the production providing a backdrop for the collection.
IDEA Books space
Much buzzed-about designers Cecilie Bahnsen, Marine Serre and Roberts Wood have each been given a permanent space for which they have created unique installations, while Molly Goddard (designer of that Killing Eve dress) has created an exclusive pink dress for the store.
