Cecil Beaton: Thirty from the 30s, Fashion and Textile Museum
The Fashion and Textile Museum celebrates the work of legendary fashion photographer Cecil Beaton this Winter
Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Cecil Beaton's groundbreaking 1968 retrospective, hosted at the National Portrait Gallery, the Fashion and Textile Museum is presenting Cecil Beaton: Thirty from the 30s as part of their larger exhibition, Night and Day: 1930s Fashion and Photographs.
This intimate exhibit will be displaying some of Beaton's most iconic images, capturing the visionary approach to portrait photography that made him a major and distinguished contributor to some of the world's most reputable fashion publications - including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Life, The Sketch and Tatler.
Beaton's career spanned about 50 years, but his fashion photographs of the 30s remain some of his best-known pieces. Portraits of Salvador Dali, Elsa Schiaparelli, Marlene Dietrich and Katharine Hepburn often steal the spotlight. One piece to look out for will be the rare 1935 colour photograph of Mary Taylor, as well as images from Beaton's Gatsby-esque parties, hosted at his home in Aschcomb.
