Craig David launches a capsule collection at Selfridges
The bass line has dropped. And so has Craig David's fashion line. Available to buy now at Selfridges
This is one garage sale people will want to attend. Craig David has launched a garage-inspired menswear collection that satisfies cravings for streetwear and sportswear all at once.
The casual collection consists of hoodies, jersey t-shirts and long sleeved jerseys in a range of sherbert colours. Prices start at £40 for a t-shirt, £95 for a hoodie. Clashing fonts reference his lyrics, his first album, 'Born to do it', from 2000, and the late nineties. It's a little naff to come across as 'street'... whatever street is. But if someone was wearing it at a festival, we'd want to go up and talk to them.
Craig David has made the news a few times. Firstly, for his garage-inspired pop, with its electronic backing track and infectious rhythms, seen in Rewind and 7 Days in the early noughties. Secondly, for his remarkable comeback (which has B*Witched frothing at the mouth, presumably) and charming stage presence at Glastonbury, Ibiza Rocks and his own concerts, where he is routinely described as 'better than ever' when he performs. And now for this.
He's not the first star to move into fashion – witness Kanye West showing at NYFW, the Weeknd designing for H&M and the GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky Collection. But David's a homegrown British talent. He's raising the profile of the UK music scene and appealing to our love of nineties nostalgia while he does it. Don't be 'Walkin' Away' from this capsule collection.
