Burberry x Henry Moore, Maker's House 2017
Modernist sculpture meets high fashion at Burberry Maker's House: Henry Moore collaboration marks second 'see-now-buy-now’ collection at London Fashion Week
Luxury fashion house Burberry is shaking things up. Last year it broke the mould by making a collection available to buy from the moment the last model steps off the runway, rather than the standard six-month lapse. Burberry also staged a pop-up exhibition in Soho, Maker's House, an immersive celebration of the craftsmanship behind the designs. The whole idea is to close the gap between
the fashion and real life.
Now they're doing it again. Maker's House returns, coinciding with Burberry's February 2017 collection, which was inspired by the works of Modernist sculptor Henry Moore. Visitors are able explore the new collection alongside more than 40 of the sculptures that inspired it.
Moore was renowned for his bronzes, massive abstractions of the human figure, often reclining nudes. Burberry has translated his unique sense of scale and shape into the silhouettes of the new collection. 'I have been fascinated by the great British sculptor Henry Moore for as long as I can remember,' says Burberry chief, Christopher Bailey. The new collection was unveiled as part of the brand’s second straight-to-consumer show on 20 February, following which the collection will be available to purchase immediately.
Curated in collaboration with the Henry Moore Foundation, Makers House will also play host to a programme of workshops, including printmaking, textile printing, life drawing and watercolour classes.
A very British love affair.
