Browns fashion boutique to move in 2020
Beloved fashion boutique Browns turns 50 next year. It's celebrating with a new address
When it comes to designer shopping in London it's hard to think of a more game-changing boutique than Browns. A London fashion institution, the South Molton Street store began life in 1970, and thanks to Joan Burstein - affectionately known in the industry as Mrs B - it brought a wealth of design talent to the capital's shoppers.
The way Mrs B scouted the graduate shows for talent such as Alexander McQueen and John Galliano is legendary, as was the then-radical approach of selling these collections alongside established designers.
Burstein was also responsible for bringing a host of international names to London for the first time, not least Calvin Klein who she met by chance at Studio 54.

As our appetite for fashion has grown over the years, so too has the Browns offering - what started as a single townhouse on South Molton Street grew to encompass five within a decade, which now house women's, men's and 'Focus' boutiques, a space which concentrates on new brands. Then, in 2017 Browns looked east, opening a new experiential store in Shoreditch.

Now the brand has announced its newest chapter - a new flagship on Brook Street in Mayfair, which will open in 2020 to coincide with the 50th anniversary.
The four storey space has been designed by architecture and design studio DIMORESTUDIO, who will retain some of the site's original grandeur and draw on historical aspects of the 1720 building. A central staircase will amplify the 'maison' feel of the new location with interconnecting rooms used to create layered spaces.

Holli Rogers, CEO of Browns and CFO of Farfetch (which purchased Browns in 2015), says 'it really is telling that we found this incredible location to be our new home as we also look to celebrate our 50th anniversary. It was important that we stayed in the heart
of Mayfair.'
As for the in-store offering at Browns Brook Street? Expect exacting customer service and technological innovation to amplify the joy of discovery that can only come with a browse around Browns.
