Out-Spoken, The Forge
Discover the best of London's spoken word and performance poetry
Out-spoken showcases London’s vibrant performance poetry and live music scene with an eclectic mix of independent performers and poets. The monthly meets feature a diverse range of talent, spanning hip hop and verse.
As the brainchild of Anthony Anaxagorou, Out-Spoken was created with the aim of giving poetry a new lease of life through live performance and incorporation of hip hop beats. Anthony is a prolific poet whose work has recently been added to the national curriculum, but he also has roots in hip hop, having toured with rapper Akala. By hosting monthly performance nights he works to uncover the freshest talents and create an atmosphere of creativity and innovation.
Joining Anthony to host the evening is fellow poet The Ruby Kid and musician Karim Kamar. As a performance poet born in Nottingham and based in London The Ruby Kid is signed by independent hip hop label Spinning Compass Records and regularly appears at open mic nights. Karim combines the traditional and street as an 'urban pianist'.
As ever this month's offering has a plethora of talents set to perform. You can buy tickets on the door, but we recommend booking to avoid disappointment.
