SalonQP, Saatchi Gallery
The annual watch fair returns to the Saatchi for 2016, showcasing hundreds of glittering timepieces
Every year, the Saatchi Gallery team up with SalonQP magazine, and gather over eighty of the world’s greatest watchmakers to the Kings Road gallery. From established brands, such as Fabergé Audemars Piguet, Greubel Forsey Jamie Hayon, to Montblanc, Girard Perregaux, Garrick, Chopard and Urwerk to up-and-coming designers, the fair captures timepieces in their full diversity.
While their timekeeping purpose may have been supplanted in the age of the iPhone, there are few things quite so stylish as a watch. From their elaborate internal workings to their beautifully crafted faces, a good watch is a miniature masterpiece of design and technology.
SalonQP offers most to those with a pre-existing predilection for portable timepieces. It’s also – a symptom of the watch-making world in general – skewed somewhat towards designs for men, although there are still numerous delectable woman’s watches on display. But even if you have never been of a horological bent, the invention on offer here is infectious, matched by the expertise and enthusiasm of the stallholders.
Whatever you wear on your wrist as you walk in, you’ll walk out with a burning desire to replace it.
