London Design Festival 2015: A Bullet from a Shooting Star by Alex Chinneck

Alex Chinneck transforms Greenwich for major London Design Festival installation

London Design Festival A Bullet from a Shooting Star, Alex Chinneck
One of the major projects marking the London Design Festival landscape in 2015 is radical artist Alex Chinneck's transformation of Greenwich.
Who is Alex Chinneck?
We best know Chinneck for his spectacular transformations of everyday structures into the realms of fantasy. Back in 2013 it seemed like the facade of a Margate semi-detached house was melting away and in 2015 a Vauxhall Corsa ripped up the tarmac on Southbank.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong property developer Knight Dragon, which is currently masterminding a major overhaul of Greenwich housing, Chinneck is creating an enormous public installation in the shape of an electricity pylon. Using the history of the site around him, Chinneck has created a lattice of 450 pieces of steel to make a pylon, which leans dangerously like the Tower of Pisa. Locals will recognise visual cues from the redundant gas tower nearby as inspiration.
